In an earlier post, we reported how Didier Drogba furiously condemned two French Doctors for suggesting in a very unfortunate conversation that the COVID-19 experimental drugs should be be tested first in Africa.
In that conversation, Jean-Paul Mira, head of resuscitation department at Cochin Hospital, said that “If I can be provocative, shouldn’t we do this study in Africa, where there are no masks, no treatment, no resuscitation, a bit like it has been done in some studies in AIDS, where among prostitutes, we try things, because they are exposed, and they don’t protect themselves, what do you think?”
Camille Locht, a research director at Inserm, in response said that, “So you are right […] we’re thinking in parallel to a study in Africa precisely to make this same type of approach w/ BCG [vaccine] placebo, I think there is a call for tenders that was released or that will be released & I think we will indeed seriously think about that too,”
This has triggered a general outrage and seems not to be dying any time soon. The former Chelsea striker and Ivorian star, Didier Yves Drogba who earlier expressed his anger, just got support from his African brother and former Barcelona striker, Samuel Eto’o.
Eto’o equally registered his displeasure on his personal social media handles, by referring to the Doctors as SH!TS for choosing Africa as a laboratory to be be used for experiment.
