New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has donated an unspecified amount of money to support the needy family in which two children share same uniform.
The donation was in reaction to an Adomonline.com’s story about four siblings sharing one uniform.
The chilling story of four children who share two sets of uniform for school due to poverty sent many listeners of Nhyira FM’s Obra shedding tears.
The numerous readers of the news portal including the NPP MP also shed tears after reading the story filed by Naa Amerley, the host of the show on the Kumasi-based station.
13-year-old Yaa, as she was called in the story and her four siblings lost their father about one year ago in a farming community in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti region.
Their mother is on self-imposed exile because she owes a bank 1,000 Ghana cedis, after she defaulted in paying fully a loan she took to cater for her sick husband who did not survive.
That marked the turning point for the family of five-life has since not been easy.
Yaa who is in Class Six shares her school uniform with her younger sister in Class Five, while two males also share another.
The fifth child, also a male, is three but yet to start schooling.
According to Yaa, her mother took a GHȼ 5,000 loan on the instruction of a brother in-law based in Italy, to cater of her sick husband.
After the husband died the brother in law failed to send her money to pay as promised.
She managed to pay GHȼ 4,000 out of the amount.
Unable to pay the rest the mother of five went into hiding for fear of being arrested.
The only difference between the woman and the Biblical story of King Nebuchadnezzar who spent 7-years in the wilderness is the few hours she enjoys at home before she leaves to seek cover.
Yes! With her time keeping skills, she leaves home at dawn every day to seek refuge in the bush, at the expense of her children’s survival.
Feeding and schooling became a real challenge to the children.
According to him, he shed tears after reading the story from this website which is fast becoming the source for exclusive and trusted news from Ghana and beyond.
