American Rapper/ Businessman, Kanye West has offered to pay for the college tuition fees of George floyd’s 6 year old daughter, Gianna Floyd. George Floyd was killed at the hands of four Minneapolis Police officers last Monday.
Gianna is six years old and was recently seen on her uncle’s shoulders saying: ‘Daddy changed the world.’ Her mother said she told Gianna the father died because he couldn’t breathe.
West has set up a 529 college savings fund as part of $2million worth of donations to African American people who have recently been killed by police and white people.
West is giving ‘to the families and legal teams’ fighting for Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, TMZ reported.
Arbery was killed by white men who hunted him down and shot him while he was out jogging in Georgia. They said he fit the description of a burglary suspect.
One man who filmed the killing drove behind Arbery while Greg McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34 waited ahead in their truck before shooting him. Prosecutors claim Greg yelled: ‘F**king n****r’ after the execution.
Taylor was killed when police broke into her Louisville, Kentucky apartment and sprayed bullets around the place while she sleeping. They said they were looking for a male drug dealer, even though that man was already in custody.
Taylor’s boyfriend was initially charged with the attempted murder of a police officer because he stood his ground and shot back through the door when he didn’t know who was on the other side. The charges have since been dropped after communities protested.
After protests against racial injustice in all 50 states and across the world, West has also vowed to donate to black-owned businesses in his hometown Chicago, Illinois.
The businesses have been struggling in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and looting by opportunists amid the protests.
West has not spoken about the Black Lives Matter moment since the killing of Floyd but he posted on Instagram for ‘blackout Tuesday’ – a campaign where brands agreed not to buy or sell for a day in order to focus on matters of racial inequality.
West’s wife, Kim Kardashian West is also donating to Black Lives Matter, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, National Urban League and Color Of Change.
Kim announced via her apparel brand ‘SKIMS is a brand rooted in inclusivity and diversity.
‘We stand in solidarity with the fight against systemic racism and are committed to supporting and participating in the shift hat needs to take place. We are donating across organizations focused on making change and fighting racial injustice.’
Kim then ended with: ‘We hope you join us in taking action to make lasting change.’
Another note added that not just SKIMS but all her brands would be weighing in including her makeup and fragrance companies: ‘My teams and I stand in solidarity with those making their voices heard in the fight against systemic racism.’
