John Mahama of NDC fame told residents of the Upper East Region during his recent campaign tour that the current government poorly implemented the Free SHS programme.
To his best knowledge, the poor implementation of the education policy compelled Akufo Addo and NPP to adopt the double-track system and that he would abolish it when voted into power.
But reacting to Mahama’s proclamation, Ghana’s incumbent president in the person of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo has said that he is surprised at claims by Mahama that he introduced the free Senior High School in 2015.
According to Akufo Addo, John Mahama discredited him when he told Ghanaians he will implement the Free SHS back in 2016.
“I heard something yesterday that surprised me. The former President stated that my promise to start the free SHS policy was false and just a ploy to deceive Ghanaians. President Akufo-Addo stated that the record of the former President in the office is nothing to write home about, hence his defeat in 2016.
The Free Secondary High School education policy in Ghana was a government initiative introduced in the 2017 September presidential administration of President Nana Akufo Addo.
