President Akufo-Addo has directed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. David Asante-Apeatu to proceed on leave pending his retirement from the police service on Wednesday, 14th August, 2019.
In a press release, signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, directed incumbent IGP, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu to proceed on leave with immediate effect with his retirement nearing.
Effectively, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh will act as Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service till a substantive IGP is later appointed by the president.
In 2018, Mr. Oppong-Boanuh was granted a one year extension of service by the president following hitting his retiring age.
The one-year extension ends in October, 2019
